Anti-government protests escalated across Iran following the mysterious death of a 22-year-old woman detained by police for not wearing the hijab on the 16th of last month in Iran.

An anti-hijab protest was held in Tehran, Iran on the 20th of last month.

Nika Shakarami, a 17-year-old woman, burns a scarf to protest the death of Mahsa Amini.

Nika, who disappeared on the day of the protest, was found dead 10 days later in a morgue run by the Iranian police.

The Iranian government has released a video of Nika falling from a construction site and dead, but soon claims the video was faked.

Family members claim she was beaten to death by the police.

The family also said the funeral was supposed to coincide with Nika’s birthday on the 2nd of this month, but authorities took her body and buried it 40 kilometers from Tehran.

Sixteen-year-old Sarina Esmailzade also died after taking part in protests in the province of Alborz, west of Tehran, on the 23rd of last month.

Amnesty International said security forces hit her in the head several times with a club and died.

When young women, including Nikawa Sarina, died one after another, women across the country took off their hijab and demanded the overthrow of the government.

Tehran high school girls expelled the male principal from the school, demanding the execution of Supreme Leader Khamenei.

The violent repression of the police and the Revolutionary Guards is also bringing the middle class, exhausted by corruption and economic difficulties, to the scene of the protest.

Recently, workers from oil refineries, a key industry, also took to the streets and shouted “overthrow the dictatorship”.

Meanwhile, the Iranian army has ordered the merciless repression of the rioters.

International human rights groups estimate that more than 150 people have been killed in anti-government protests since last month.
