Japanese Figure⁢ Skater Yuzuru Hanyu ‍Announces Marriage on Twitter

On the⁤ 4th of ‍October, professional ​figure skater Yuzuru​ Hanyu ‍(28) updated‌ his⁣ X (formerly known‌ as Twitter) to announce his marriage. This day, the ‍4th of October, is a special day as ⁤it coincides ​with “Ichiryu Manbai‌ Day,” “Tensha ​Day,”⁣ and “Taian Day,” which are considered ‍auspicious. However, ⁣the announcement came ‍as a surprise at 11:11 PM, just before the end ‌of the day.

Starting his message‌ with ‍”To everyone who​ has supported me, ‍thank you very much,” Hanyu reported, “I, Yuzuru Hanyu, will be getting married.” He continued, “For the past 24 years, I have lived‌ my life alongside skating. Especially ⁣in‍ this world that is constantly changing and unstable due⁢ to the coronavirus, natural disasters, and global situations, I have ⁢experienced many things and continued‍ to think about skating, myself, and the world. Even ‌now, as a professional skater, and ⁢as an immature ⁣person both as an athlete and as a human⁤ being, I ⁤have received an immeasurable amount of support, expectations, ‍and ​attention‌ from all of you. Thank you⁣ very ⁣much.”

Furthermore, Hanyu stated, “Today, I⁢ will ​continue to deepen ‘Yuzuru ‌Hanyu’s skating’ with my life, continue‌ to work hard, and continue to evolve. In order to perform ‌the best‌ skating, I will continue to accumulate⁤ each and every‍ moment. In the future, ⁣I will continue⁤ to⁣ live my life with ⁣all of you who support me, with skating, with all my strength, and move forward. ‍And,⁣ I will​ continue ⁢to​ skate in order to make ‌everything about ‍all of you the best it can⁣ be,⁢ expressing my ⁢gratitude ⁢to those who have supported me and those​ who will⁤ continue to support ⁤me. Please continue to support me from now on.”

Hanyu ⁢was born on​ December 7, 1994,‍ in Sendai, Miyagi.​ He won⁣ consecutive gold medals at ⁣the 2014 Sochi and ⁣2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, and received‌ the National Honor Award. In​ his attempt to achieve a​ three-peat at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, he challenged the quad axel (a quadruple jump⁤ with four and a half rotations) in​ the free skate, becoming the ​first skater in the world⁣ to be recognized by ​the International‍ Skating‌ Union. On ​July 19 of the same year,‌ he announced his decision to continue skating ​as a professional athlete.
