Yellow angels come with the pedelec
ADAC road patrol in Darmstadt by bike
Since the beginning of September, an ADAC breakdown helper has been out and about with a pedelec, i.e. a bicycle with electric pedal assistance, in the Darmstadt urban area. In urban traffic polluted with particulate matter, the ADAC wants to check whether it can act particularly quickly with e-bikes and reach the defective vehicle. The focus is on speed and flexibility in breakdown assistance as well as environmentally friendly mobility.
After the good acceptance in Berlin and Cologne, a yellow angel with e-bike is now also being used in Darmstadt.
The breakdown assistant responsible is Jörg Kerestes: “With my bike in city traffic I can sometimes get to the scene faster than with a car. The extensive tool kit in the trailer is sufficient for most breakdowns. The people are excited too. Cyclists praise the ADAC and the concept. Many members wanted to take photos immediately. ”
The pedelec is a Supercharger2 GT Touring from the southern Hessian manufacturer Riese & Müller from Mühltal in the Odenwald. Two batteries provide enough reserve to pull the 78 kilogram cargo trailer. Jörg Kerestes has driven a good 70 kilometers between Darmstadt and Griesheim per shift. Much of the equipment housed in the yellow trailer corresponds to that of the breakdown assistance vehicle. However, it is not possible to change tires or batteries because the material required is too heavy and bulky.
The selection of breakdowns that can be cared for by electric bike is done in close cooperation between the breakdown assistant and dispatcher.
Orders are sent to the helper on two wheels using the same means of communication as in the road patrol car.
This also includes a tablet PC that is housed in the trailer.
The trailer is equipped with a dynamo-driven rear light and its own brake system. The content includes a complete tool kit, a compressor, tire repair kits and the diagnostic tool for reading out the fault memory.
You are welcome to contact us directly for press support for the breakdown worker. Image and sound material are available on request.
