The much-touted deadline for terminating car insurance is over. What if the vehicle insurer’s bill is in the mailbox after November 30th? So you only find out later that car insurance will be more expensive in the coming year. Do you have to stay with the previous insurer? No. This is where the special right of termination comes into play. The one-month notice period only begins when the invoice is received.
Even with a cheaper contribution, the special right of termination does not automatically expire. It depends on the reason for the lower premium. If the premium falls because the no-claims class improves due to accident-free driving, while the tariff level of the basic premium rises, the special termination remains a lucrative option. Why? It is not unlikely that the car premium will be even cheaper if the customer can benefit from both a better no-claims discount and a lower tariff.
Look closely and save money
Conclusion: The invoice should be read carefully. If there is a special right of termination, the previous insurer must clearly point this out to its customers. There is nothing in the way of switching to the cheaper motor vehicle insurer – even after November 30th.
It pays to compare: the price ranges between the individual providers are considerable: this can often save a few hundred euros per year. Corresponding portals on the Internet help with price comparisons. But be careful, no portal takes into account all motor insurers and often it is a slimmed-down offer in terms of benefits. Research in several portals is therefore essential. In addition, online portals work on a commission basis. For each brokered policy, the affected vehicle premium pays you. Online portals are therefore only partially independent. Some cheap direct insurers cannot be found there. Therefore, it is always worthwhile to ask a cheap insurer at the same time.
