The famous white lights will shine again

The Empire State Building announced today that its famous white lights will re-illuminate the New York City skyline to celebrate the first day of New York City’s reopening.

Since March 30th, the famous white lights of the Empire State Building have been replaced by the “Pandemic Siren” and the “Heartbeat of New York” at night. So far, the building has been lit every hour to honor and inspire New York City first responders, and there has been the # HeroesShineBright campaign, music and light shows with Alicia Keys and The Beatles in partnership with iHeartRadio, and a fundraiser with a special YouTube -Music video in cooperation with the Robin Hood Foundation, in which Billy Joel appeared and which was introduced by Governor Cuomo.

Thanks to worldwide media coverage, the Empire State Building’s light show has become a beacon that we are all standing together in this crisis.

“In the United States, India, Australia and China alone, the Empire State Building’s light show generated more than 33 billion impressions during the battle against the pandemic,” said Anthony E. Malkin, executive director and chairman of the Empire State Real Trust. “The Empire State Building is an authentic exponent of New York City and New York State around the world.”

And he adds: “Together with the New Yorkers, we are celebrating the personal commitment of all first aiders and the decision-making power of the officials of New York State and New York City. All of these people have helped us that our city can now get back to everyday life. We look forward to sharing New York with New Yorkers, the country and the world again with the reopening of the world famous observatory. ”

The building shines in its famous white lighting at night when no corporate or holiday lighting is planned. The Empire State Building will continue to twinkle for five minutes every hour from 9 p.m. until the end of the COVID-19 pandemic to honor the first responders who are still working on the front lines. The following five minutes in darkness are dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives.
