An employee of a bank prevented further handing out of cash
On Tuesday afternoon (July 13), an 82-year-old elderly woman from Pulheim received a call from a stranger. He pretended to be the pensioner’s son and pretended to be sick with the Delta variant of the coronavirus. Allegedly, he has to be flown to a clinic in a helicopter from vacation and then treated with a medicine that has not yet been approved. To do this, he needs a large amount of cash. While the caller kept the conversation going for half an hour, the 82-year-old was looking for jewelry and cash in the house. A little later a 30 year old and rather small woman with black hair picked up the valuables at the home address of the elderly woman. The person collecting it should have a rounded figure.
The unknown caller, however, did not agree with the amount of cash and asked the senior citizen to withdraw the remaining amount from the bank. When the elderly woman wanted to order the money from the bank for collection on the same day, a skeptical employee of the bank noticed that it could be a fraud. She contacted the 82-year-old’s son who confirmed that he was fine and that the caller was apparently a fraud. The elderly woman filed a complaint at a police station.
The investigators of Criminal Investigation Department 12 ask witnesses who have seen the woman described or who can provide further information about the crime at around 4 p.m. in the area of Friedenstraße, Lindenplatz, Am Blauen Stein, Am Grünen Weg or Alte Kirchstraße to call 02233 52 -0 or by email to [email protected].
The Rhein-Erft police advise you to remain skeptical about such a call, especially if you are asked to maintain secrecy. Do not provide any information about your own assets. Hang up and contact your relatives or the person who is supposed to have called you on a number known to you. Do not hand over valuables to strangers. Dial 110 yourself and don’t let the caller put you through to the police. Fraudsters now no longer only use face-to-face conversations on the phone, but also messenger services and the option of SMS to get their scam to be successful. (akl)
