A81 / Großrinderfeld: car burned out
A car was on fire on Wednesday afternoon on the A81 near Großrinderfeld. The driver was driving on the motorway towards Würzburg at around 12.30 p.m. when he noticed that a fire had ignited in the engine compartment of his Fiat. The man steered the car onto the hard shoulder and called the fire brigade and police. The man and his passenger were able to escape unharmed from the vehicle. The car burned out before the fire department could finally put out the flames. The car was totaled around 3,000 euros. The motorway had to be temporarily closed completely for the fire-fighting and clean-up work. The cause of the fire is so far unknown.
