On Friday, August 20, 2021, around 11:30 p.m., a serious traffic accident occurred on the B 31 a, near Umkirch.
According to the first investigations, a 53-year-old man first drove his Mini car on the B 31 a coming from Freiburg and left it at the Umkirch-Süd junction.
When leaving the B 31 a, the car came off the road in the right-hand bend and collided with the crash barrier. After several overturns, the car remained on the roof about 50 meters further.
The 22-year-old passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the car and seriously injured. The driver was also seriously injured. Both are treated in local hospitals.
The exit of the B 31 A, Umkirch-Süd, had to be completely closed until after 02:00 a.m. In the traffic accident, 15 men from the Umkirch fire brigade, the ambulance service with an emergency doctor and several police officers were on site.
The police have started investigations into this traffic accident. Possible witnesses are asked to call the traffic police in Freiburg on 0761 882 3100.
