(mo) On Friday evening, March 5th, 2021 there was a traffic accident between a Smart and a patrol car. A total of three people were slightly injured.
At about 8.40 p.m., a police officer who was actually free noticed a Smart on the A 66 due to its unsafe driving style. The police officer then notified his colleagues, who, using special rights and rights of way, rushed to support the colleague. Since the driving style of the Smart driver led to the suspicion of a drunk driving, two more patrols were sent to the Cassellastrasse / Orber Strasse area. There, the smart driver overlooked the patrol approaching with a siren and blue lights switched on, so that the two vehicles collided. As a result, both cars were badly damaged and were no longer roadworthy. The amount of the financial damage cannot be quantified at the moment.
The 44-year-old Smart driver and two 25-year-old police officers were slightly injured in the accident and had to be treated on an outpatient basis. The police were unable to continue their duties.
According to previous knowledge, the driver of the Smart was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The cause of his driving behavior is not yet known. The investigations into the specific course of the accident are ongoing.
