45117 E. urban areas / 45468 MH. urban areas: Blue uniforms and silver-blue patrol cars have been determining the appearance of the police in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2011. The change from green to blue was associated with a unique fitting for all police officers in Mülheim and Essen.
And even if many colleagues looked forward to the chic dark blue uniforms, it was mainly the older colleagues who mourned the bamboo-beige shirts and pants, the moss-green uniform jackets – and above all the black leather jackets that were painted without replacement.
After repeated inquiries from sentimental colleagues, who from then on saw themselves forced to wear their beloved green uniforms only in their own four walls, the responsible department decided that the old uniform should be worn again on Maundy Thursdays in future. Just as Christians follow their old custom of eating green vegetables and herbs on Maundy Thursday, the Essen Police Headquarters would like to bring a new tradition to life to remember the good, old (fashionable) times./SyC
