45127 E-Innenstadt: This evening (April 24th, 2021) around 6:10 p.m., a registered rally with the topic “For the end of the Corona crisis” took place on Willy-Brandt-Platz. On the fringes of this rally there was a 20-year-old Afghan who bumped into other participants in the rally for no reason and who subsequently approached the police officers deployed there without covering his mouth and nose. This person, who was not attending the meeting, was asked by the officers to wear a mouth and nose covering. The young man made a psychologically unstable impression and did not react to any speeches. When the person was held by the arm by a police officer in order to prevent his actions and also to determine his personal details to produce a complaint, he unexpectedly hit the officer and hit him in the upper body. The man was then captured by emergency services and handcuffed to the ground to prevent further attacks. The Essen native injured his hand slightly. Because of his apparently unstable health, he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for psychiatric treatment. Fortunately, the officers deployed were unharmed. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the man for resisting law enforcement officers. Several people filmed the police operation against the attacker with their mobile phones. / TW
