An intoxicated driver of a pickup truck caused a traffic accident on Autobahn 1 on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at around 8:45 a.m.
The 53-year-old from the Osnabrück district wanted to drive his van at the Lohne-Dinklage junction onto Autobahn 1 in the direction of Osnabrück. Obviously the cars ahead accelerated too slowly, so that he switched from the acceleration lane directly to the middle lane. He overlooked the truck of a 27-year-old from Belarus, who was driving on Autobahn 1 in the direction of Osnabrück.
There was a collision between the right-hand side of the tractor unit and the left-hand side of the van, which resulted in total damage of 8,000 euros. The two men were unharmed.
However, the officers deployed found that the 53-year-old had caused the accident to smell alcohol. A breath alcohol test carried out showed an alcohol value of 0.64 per mille.
The officers initiated criminal proceedings for endangering road traffic and contacted the Oldenburg public prosecutor. A responsible public prosecutor ordered a blood sample to be taken and the driver’s license to be confiscated.
