On Friday (May 22nd, 2020) officers from the Geestland Police Department checked a 36-year-old man from Hamm (North Rhine-Westphalia) with his animal transporter, who was on the way to the slaughterhouse in Düring, at around 2:30 p.m. The transporter was loaded with a total of 171 slaughter pigs. Already on site it could be determined that the transport was mathematically overloaded. A check on a vehicle scale showed that the transport was overloaded by almost 4 tons. Strict hygiene and transport requirements apply to the transport of live animals. For example, each animal must have a suitable standing area in the transport vehicle. It was found that if the required space had been adhered to, only 112 pigs could have been transported 59 fewer than actually transported. This represents a massive violation of animal transport law. Vehicle drivers and owners must expect high fines.
