According to his own admission, a driver smoked smoke in Rhede on Tuesday. Police officers checked the 23-year-old in the city center in the evening. There was a distinct smell of marijuana in the car – the driver finally admitted to having consumed the drug on the same day. He also had a small amount of marijuana with him. The officers seized the drugs, prohibited them from continuing their journey and filed a criminal complaint. A doctor took a blood sample from the young man in the police station in Bocholt in order to be able to precisely prove the drug consumption.
In this context, the police point out again: Those who drive a car while intoxicated are endangering themselves and others. Failure symptoms and failures already occur after consuming small quantities – this increases the risk of an accident. Many users are also unsure of how long it can take for their bodies to break down the drug. Driving a car under the influence of illegal drugs also has legal consequences: It is an administrative offense that can result in a fine of up to 1,500 euros and a driving ban for up to three months. There are also two points in the “traffic offenders file”. If the intoxicated driver commits a driving error, endangers other road users or causes an accident, it is a criminal offense. The penal code provides for a prison sentence of up to five years and fines.
