New panorama by Yadegar Asisi / “NEW YORK 9/11” shows the cosmopolitan city a breath before the attacks

On the occasion of the approaching anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001, the artist Yadegar Asisi announces his anti-war project “NEW YORK 9/11”, which is to open on July 3, 2021 in the Panometer Leipzig. The new 360-degree panorama stands in a row with “LEIPZIG 1813” and “DRESDEN 1945” as his third anti-war project and is a statement against terror and violence. It fits into the overall work of its subjective perception of this world.

With “NEW YORK 9/11” Yadegar Asisi deals with one of the most formative moments in modern history. The attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the resulting wars, which plunged entire continents into unending chaos and intensified the lines of conflict between cultures and religions, are an essential part of our present day.

The panorama does not depict the tragic events of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center itself, but rather presents the silhouette of Manhattan with the world-famous twin towers immediately before the terrorist attacks. A typical morning is shown in the big city rhythm of the multicultural metropolis New York: People of all origins rush into their offices, wait in front of the takeaways and pour out of the subway exits in droves. In connection with the bright sunshine and the clear sky of the beginning autumn day, a colorful, busy and yet unreally peaceful scene is created.

In contrast to this, the path into the panorama leads through the consequences of this fateful day and shows the global effects of the events and the much increased human suffering in the aftermath of the catastrophe. Asisi dedicates himself to the moral question: “What reactions and answers do we have to violence?” First of all, the artist wants to create an understanding of the complexity of the interrelationships: “How can it be that innocent innocents have to die because a few people for whatever reason, consciously send to death? ”

In the Panometer Leipzig, the historical gasometer, panoramas by Yadegar Asisi have been continuously on view since 2003. From here the renaissance of panoramic art started. “CAROLAS GARDEN – A Return to Paradise” is currently being shown, which has been taking visitors into the exotic macro world of the home garden since January 2019. In addition to Leipzig, the artist’s panoramas can also be seen in Berlin, Dresden, Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Pforzheim, Hanover and Rouen (France).
