A document

March 4th is international World Engineering Day: the Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH is also participating with two events. The focus of the online programs from March 4 and 7, 2021 is mobility and how engineers help shape it with their solutions.

Dear media representatives,

The sustainable use of natural resources and the development of new technologies are of great importance for shaping the future. These are the central themes of the annual World Engineering Day. The Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH and its event partners SBB, Swiss Engineering STV and Progressia Biennensis will focus on mobility in 2021.

At the pulse of public transport mobility

Public transport is facing major challenges: the rail network is very busy, and customer expectations for passenger and freight transport have risen significantly over the past twenty years. The capacities of individual routes are to be doubled by 2040. The energy-efficient rail system should make an important contribution to this. The SBB key project “Unbundling Wylerfeld” in Bern is an example of how this task can be mastered. The World Engineering Day on March 4, 2021 allows an exclusive look behind the scenes of this groundbreaking project and provides inputs on the subject of mobility in presentations by the BFH.

The future of aviation

Electromobility has found its way into road traffic – in rail traffic for some time. Now electrification is also moving into focus in aviation. How will aviation develop in the next few years? Will the battery be able to play an important role as a chemical energy store here too? What forms of application are opening up thanks to hybrid and fully electric drive forms? The event on March 7, 2021 will address these and other questions about the trends in the aviation industry of the future.

World Engineering Day

The 40th General Assembly of UNESCO decided in November 2019 to hold World Engineering Day on March 4th every year. The aim of this event is to bring together knowledge, ideas and visions for global sustainable development.
