(SR) On Saturday October 16, 2021, the Ludwigshafen fire brigade was alerted at 12:30 p.m. to Ludwigshafen Friesenheim in Sternstraße about smoke development. Numerous emergency calls were received in the integrated control center in Ludwigshafen. When the emergency services arrived, a strong smoke development was visible from a balcony on the first floor of a 5-storey residential building. A fire on this balcony broke an apartment window due to the effects of heat and smoke had penetrated into the apartment. The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire quickly. Subsequently, the affected living space was mechanically ventilated and the defective window was temporarily paneled with a wooden panel. This meant that the premises could continue to be used. As a precaution, two residents were handed over to the emergency services. For the period of the extinguishing measures, Sternstrasse was closed to road traffic on both sides. 28 firefighters from the Ludwigshafen fire brigade were deployed with 7 vehicles. The professional fire brigade was supported by the Ludwigshafen Oppau volunteer fire brigade with 2 vehicles and 10 emergency services. The rescue service and the police were also involved in the operation.
