On the Europe-wide day of the emergency call, February 11th, professional fire brigades throughout Germany provide information about what is happening in the control center, in the rescue service and during fire brigade operations with a so-called Twitter storm. The Frankfurt fire brigade follows with its own focus.

More than 1,000 emergency calls are received every day in the central control center of the fire brigade of the city of Frankfurt am Main, which coordinates all fire and rescue services for the city. Emergency services and special vehicles move out, help, rescue and relocate to hospitals. On the day of the emergency call, February 11th, all interested Frankfurters can follow this a bit on Twitter: The fire brigade operations will appear anonymously there in real time. Rescue service trips, which represent the vast majority of emergency calls, are summarized every hour.

The original aim of the emergency call day is to provide information about the Europe-wide uniform toll-free emergency number 112, the 11.2. was chosen because of the digits. More than 50 German professional fire departments are now involved. At the end of the day, the campaign should benefit the citizens: “It is a good opportunity to show how the fire brigade and rescue service work,” says Frankfurt’s security department chief Markus Frank, who noted the Twitter storm in his calendar every year. “But it also serves all of us if as many people as possible know when to dial the emergency number and what information the control center employees absolutely need in order to send help.”

In addition to everything that is important on the subject of emergency calls, the Frankfurt fire brigade also wants to take up the cooperation of professional and volunteer fire brigades in the city area and also focus on the topic of training and career opportunities. The account of the Frankfurt Fire Brigade, to which around 116,500 people have subscribed, is www.twitter.com/feuerwehrffm . In order to follow the day of the emergency call on Twitter, it is not necessary to register with the short message service. The hashtag for the posts of all participating fire brigades is # 112live, the Frankfurt messages are marked with # Frankfurt112.
