- Seit 2012 mehrstufiges Maßnahmenkonzept entwickelt und umgesetzt
Eckes-Granini is the first company in Germany to be certified and awarded the 3rd Star of the “Lean & Green” initiative by GS1 Germany. Since 2012, the family company has continuously and successfully implemented various measures with regard to its eco-efficiency in the warehouse and logistics processes at its three locations in Nieder-Olm, Bröl and Bad Fallingbostel. Specifically, the “Lean & Green” sustainability initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. “As a founding member of the initiative, we want to set a good example and are proud to be the first company in Germany to be awarded the 3rd Star”, says Dr. Kay Fischer, Managing Director of Eckes-Granini Germany. All participating companies from “Lean & Green” can achieve up to five stars, these are linked to corresponding targets. The 3rd Star is currently the highest certification level in Germany that a company has achieved.
Determination pays off
Eckes-Granini received the initiative’s 1st Star Award in 2018, the 2nd Star followed in 2020 and now the 3rd Star a year later. The company has been proud of its results since 2012: In the past nine years, Eckes-Granini has already saved 4,838 tonnes of CO2 and thus around 36% of its logistics-related greenhouse gas emissions through numerous measures. “We are continuously working on our reduction targets in the action plan and identify potential savings. Building on this, we carry out the various projects. We demonstrate successful implementation through ongoing tracking of measures. We are very pleased that our commitment to sustainability has been recognized by GS1 Germany for many years “, explains Steffen Riedel, head of the logistics department at Eckes-Granini Germany.
Eckes-Granini has implemented the following major projects in the last few years until reaching the 3rd star:
Evidence of the successful implementation of all projects as part of the “Lean & Green” initiative is checked and confirmed by a neutral certification organization (TÜV Nord CERT).
Continue to promote environmental protection
The concept of sustainability is one of the main pillars of the company. “At Eckes-Granini Germany, we always do our best to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible. Certification with the 3rd Star confirms that we will continue to work on innovative projects. Of course, we will not rely on our previous successes take a rest – because there is still a lot of useful work to be done with a view to further reducing CO2 emissions, and we will continue to be at the forefront with full conviction “, says Steffen Riedel.
