The General Public Prosecutor’s Office in Frankfurt am Main – intervention reserve – and the Federal Police Inspectorate for Combating Crime in Frankfurt am Main launched an extensive investigation on December 17, 2020 on suspicion of the commercial smuggling of foreigners, aiding and abetting illegal residence, misuse of identification documents, providing false IDs, withholding social security issues and tax evasion searched residential and business premises as well as brothels in five federal states and arrested two suspects on the basis of an arrest warrant from the Hanau District Court. The extensive search measures took place in Frankfurt am Main, Eschborn, Oberursel, Dortmund, Karlsruhe, Göttingen, Helmstedt, Mühlheim an der Ruhr, Nuremberg and the Main-Kinzig district.

The accused, a 43-year-old German citizen and a 36-year-old Chinese citizen, are suspected of having entered and resided in Germany for several Chinese nationals in the years 2018 to 2020, sometimes using forged identity documents or ID documents issued to other people permit valid residence permits and then have the women employed as prostitutes.

After the smuggled women arrived in Germany, the accused are said to have organized accommodations in apartments and brothels as well as transfer trips for them and placed advertisements on various websites.

The accused are said to have claimed and obtained 50% of the income from prostitution. The accused are also accused of failing to register the women employed as prostitutes for social security and thereby withholding social security contributions of over EUR 200,000 and not paying wage tax and sales tax.

As part of the search measures, numerous pieces of evidence, in particular computers and data carriers as well as written documents, were found and secured. In order to skim off the funds obtained from the alleged acts, bank balances of the accused were also temporarily secured with several credit institutions. The main accused will be brought before the judge at the Hanau District Court today to issue the arrest warrant.

A total of 120 federal police officers were involved in the operational measures today.
