Gelsenkirchen – Recklinghausen (ots)

Yesterday afternoon (March 3rd) it became clear after just two hours why the gun ban zone in Gelsenkirchen main station was necessary.

At around 4 p.m., emergency services checked a young man from Recklinghausen on the occasion of the gun ban zone in Gelsenkirchen main station. On the general decree, he was asked about dangerous objects he had carried with him. The 21-year-old replied in the affirmative and handed the officers a knife.

When asked why the man would be in the main station, he simply said: “chill.” He did not explain to the emergency services why a so-called one-hand knife is needed for this.

The Federal Police seized the knife and initiated an administrative offense procedure under the Weapons Act.

In this context, the Federal Police refers to the gun ban zone in the main train stations in Essen, Gelsenkirchen and Mülheim an der Ruhr, which has existed since 03.03.2021.
