Watch the passage of Van Gucht here:
According to Van Gucht, it is only responsible to relax on May 8 if it is dealt with “very carefully”. “Outside, outside, outside and keep your distance. If you look at the current numbers, you can see that it is stuck on a very high plateau. We had hoped that we would already be on the decline. We don’t see that yet. We must be positive. It may still come ”, says Van Gucht in the studio of VTM Nieuws. “It will remain very busy in hospitals by May 8th. There will be little margin for new patients. ”
Van Gucht thinks the plan for the cultural events sector is a bit “too ambitious”. “I’m a bit more positive for the summer and autumn. I advocate caution in May and June. Outdoor events, but with a limited number in the beginning. We can learn a lot from test projects. I wouldn’t organize events that are too big too quickly. If you look at Israel, you see a vaccination rate of 60 percent there. There are no major events, but there are open and small-scale catering establishments. ”
Yesterday evening, biostatisticians called for a two more week delay before relaxing. “If you relax too much too soon, you can have an upsurge at the end of June – beginning of July,” Van Gucht also confirms. “It will not be as high as we know it now, but the tax on hospitals will remain very high for a long time. That can last until July. Especially for healthcare it is important to be able to persevere. A little patience can make all the difference. The models also demonstrate that. ”
According to Van Gucht, the terraces can only open under strict conditions. “People are counting on the announced relaxation. You can hardly turn that back. When you open the terraces, it is important to do so under strict conditions. In the Netherlands, strict conditions have also been drawn up for April 28. Only sit at a table with your household or cuddly contact, preferably at a distance. Closing at six is very early. It matters who you sit there with. If you sit with your bubble on a patio, the risk is no greater than sitting at home on your patio. If you meet up with everyone, the risk is of course greater. ”
