FranceFootball editor evaluates giving the 2020 Golden Ball to Lewandowski
Pascal Ferré, editor-in-chief of FranceFootball magazine, which organizes the Ballon d’Or, does not rule out giving Robert Lewandowski the award for best player in the world of 2020.
The Bayern forward was voted best by FIFA last year, while the Ballon d’Or was canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic. This year Messi ended up winning the Golden Ball, with Lewandowski second best.
“Messi’s words were pleasant and very intelligent. I don’t think you should rush into decisions, but we can think about the Golden Ball 2020 for Lewandowski and we should. Obviously we’re not sure he would be the winner, there wasn’t any vote, but to be honest, he was the one with the best chance of winning,” Ferré told Swiss portal Watson.
The Golden Ball takes into account not only the individual performance of each nominated athlete, but also the collective success of their teams and selections. The Ballon d’Or poll includes more than 150 journalists from around the world, who assemble their own ranking.
