The Arab Football Union has set a condition for new players in national associations in order to allow them to participate in the King Salman Arab Clubs Cup, which will be hosted in Taif, Abha, and Al-Baha in Saudi Arabia and will kick off tomorrow.
Mueid Al-Shahri, the tournament director, explained to “Al-Riyadh” that clubs that have not registered their players in the local union will not be able to include them in their teams. He pointed out that the lists will be reviewed in the coming days by the organizing committee to ensure their presence in their official records.
He said, “The participation of new stars from Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Shabab, who have been contracted during the current summer transfer period, depends on their official registration with the Saudi Football Federation.”
He added, “This applies to the rest of the participating clubs as well. What matters to us is that the player is registered in the local union.”
According to sources close to “Al-Riyadh,” Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr, and Al-Shabab are still banned from registering players due to various penalties imposed by FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) until the preparation of this news. It is worth mentioning that Al-Hilal is the only Saudi club that does not face a registration ban. It announced its official list for the tournament yesterday, which included its new stars, Senegalese Khaledou Koulibaly, Portuguese Ruben Neves, and Serbian Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Arab Championship will conclude on August 12 and will witness the participation of Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Shabab. In the event of their qualification for the knockout stages, their matches in the first round of the Saudi Pro League, which starts on the same day, will be postponed.
