Yesterday I delivered the news that a North Korean man was caught near the Civil Control Line in Donghae, Gangwon Province.
Investigations revealed that the man swam over the sea and, after landing, was spotted several times by military surveillance equipment, but no action was taken until he was captured.

Even though a North Korean man was photographed several times on military surveillance equipment, no action was taken?

That’s right. This is what the Joint Chiefs of Staff revealed.
It turned out that the military’s vigilance operation was really a mess while a North Korean man captured at about 7:20 a.m. yesterday was traveling to South Korea.
The joint chief said it had found the man’s flippers and wetsuit, and said it appears to have swam through the sea and passed through a drainage ditch near the Goseong Unification Observatory.
By the way, the first known spot for this man’s spotting was at the Civil Control Line checkpoint a few kilometers further south of the Unification Observatory.
At this time, the time was 4:20 am, and about 7:20, three hours later, this man’s recruit was secured near the checkpoint.
It seems that there was no restraint while descending the road from the Goseong Unification Observation Deck to the vicinity of the seismic checkpoint, which is a civil control line checkpoint.
This road is an area where civilians are not allowed to walk.
In particular, it was revealed that after landing from the sea to the shore, this man came out through a drainage channel near the Unification Observatory.
In this process, it seems that he was able to walk down to the civilian control line checkpoint without taking any action.
Military authorities say North Korean men have been spotted by military surveillance equipment several times, but no action has been taken.
In addition, after the incident of traveling to North Korea through the Ganghwa-do drainage channel in July last year, the drainage channel issue was raised, but this time it was opened again in the process of Vietnam.
Military officials said they had confirmed that the drainage barrier was damaged.
Accordingly, the military said that it was seriously aware of the situation and emphasized that it would take strict measures according to the results of the investigation.
A North Korean man who is currently being investigated is known to have expressed his intention to defect, and military authorities are known to be checking whether they are soldiers, considering that they wore swimming gear and swam over the sea in cold weather.
