As smog from China flows in again in the afternoon, the concentration of ultrafine dust in the Midwest is expected to rise to ‘bad’ levels overnight.
Rain is expected to fall in Jeju and the southern part of the country in the second half of the week due to the influence of rain clouds left by the typhoon.
Let’s connect with an investigative reporter to find out.
Reporter Kim Min-kyung, the air is clean now, but when did smog from China start coming in?
[기자]
Yes, this is the third day that smog from China has flown in since last Sunday afternoon, and it is expected to flow into the upper atmosphere of the Midwest from this afternoon.
In the afternoon, the concentration of ultrafine dust will not rise significantly due to smooth atmospheric diffusion.
As the air stagnates overnight, the concentration of ultrafine dust is expected to rise to ‘bad’ levels, especially in the metropolitan area and parts of South Chungcheong Province.
Until tomorrow morning, the concentration of ultrafine dust in the Midwest is expected to remain at the ‘bad’ level, and from the afternoon, air quality will gradually recover to normal as the spread in the air becomes smoother.
In the fall, thick fog often occurs in the morning due to large daily temperature differences, so there is a high possibility that fog and dust will become entangled and obscure your vision, so you need to be careful on your way to work tomorrow morning.

Starting the day after tomorrow, it will rain a lot in Jeju because of the rain clouds left behind by the typhoon?
[기자]
Yes, that’s right.
Currently, Typhoon No. 21 ‘Konglei’ in the southeastern sea of Taiwan is moving towards Taiwan with very strong strength.
After passing through the inland of Taiwan around tomorrow afternoon, its strength is expected to weaken rapidly and later weaken to an extratropical cyclone.
The Korean Peninsula will not be directly affected by the typhoon.
However, as the rain clouds left behind by the typhoon move northeast, rain is expected to fall mainly on Jeju Island and the southern region starting the day after tomorrow.
First of all, somewhat heavy rain is expected the day after tomorrow, especially in Jeju Island.
Up to 100 mm or more of rain is expected on Jeju Island, 10 to 50 mm on the southern coast, and 5 to 40 mm in the southern inland area.
In particular, caution is needed on Jeju Island the day after tomorrow as strong rain of around 20 to 30 mm per hour, accompanied by gusts of wind, thunder, and lightning, is expected to fall in some places.
Along with the rain, strong winds and waves of up to 4 meters are expected to rise around Jeju Island, the South Sea, and the southern waters of the West Sea.
The impact of the rain clouds left behind by the typhoon is expected to continue through the weekend.
The Korea Meteorological Administration is expected to announce the expected precipitation until the weekend through a notice in the late afternoon.
