The World Health Organization advisory group said, “It is recommended to use the AstraZeneca vaccine for seniors aged 65 and over.”
The advisory group admitted that there is a lack of relevant data for seniors aged 65 and over.
However, he explained, “I think the effectiveness of vaccination for the elderly cannot be different from those of the lower age group.”
The advisory group also recommended that the AstraZeneca vaccine can also be used where the COVID-19 mutant virus is outbreak.
He recommended that the two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine be given between 8 and 12 weeks.
AstraZeneca suggests an inoculation interval of 4 to 12 weeks, but the advisory team explained, “In a longer interval, an increase in efficacy and immunity was observed.”

By the way, countries around the world are taking different measures regarding the age group for AstraZeneca vaccination?

First of all, in the UK, AstraZeneca vaccine is given to all adults.
The first vaccination this year was an 82-year-old male, so we believe in the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine for the elderly.
India, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil have also approved use for all adults, like the UK.
In contrast, European countries are reluctant to get AstraZeneca vaccine to older people.
It is advantageous that there is a lack of clinical data on the elderly.
Germany, France, Austria, Sweden and Norway have only recommended vaccinations for those under the age of 65.
In addition, the vaccination was recommended for those under the age of 70 in Finland, under the age of 60 in Poland, and under the age of 55 in Belgium.
Switzerland withheld the approval itself, saying the data were not yet sufficient.
South Africa has also withheld the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine as it has limited effectiveness against mutant viruses.
Thailand and Ecuador also gave conditional permits.
However, with the recommendation of this WHO advisory group, the plan of’CoVax’, an international vaccine joint purchase project, has gained momentum.
AstraZeneca is KOVAX’s major vaccine supplier, and KOVAX plans to deliver 366 million doses to member countries in the first half of this year.
So far, the International Department has delivered it.
