[국제]Jimmy Lai, owner of Hong Kong’s anti-Chinese media, accused of violating Hong Kong security laws

Jimmy Lai, the owner of Hong Kong’s leading anti-Chinese media, Bean Fruity, was additionally prosecuted for violating the National Security Law eight days after being accused of fraud.

Hong Kong police said in a statement on the 11th local time, “As a result of an additional investigation by the National Security Law team within the police, a 73-year-old man was charged with putting national security at risk by collusion with foreign or external forces.”

Police did not reveal the man’s identity, but Hong Kong’s private broadcaster TVB and others cited an anonymous source and reported that Lai was accused of putting national security at risk by collusion with foreign forces.

Lai was arrested for violating the Hong Kong Security Law in August and was released on bail after a day, but has since been charged with other fraud, and has been imprisoned after the court denied bail on the 3rd.

A spokesman for the British Prime Minister’s Office said, “I am deeply concerned that the focus of the Hong Kong authorities is on legal action aimed at democrats like Jimmy Rai,” in the prosecution of Lai, a British citizen.
