[앵커]

As Ukraine accelerates its reconquest of the Russian-occupied territories, Russian attacks on civilian structures in Ukraine, such as the Zaporiza nuclear power plant, are on the rise.

The White House said there are no signs of Russia’s use of nuclear weapons and that the US military position has remained unchanged.

How is the situation in Ukraine? You say Russia is increasing artillery fire on civilian structures?

The New York Times reported that Ukraine recaptured some 500 square kilometers of territory, slightly smaller than Seoul, in one week.

Ukrainian President Zelensky said 29 settlements had been claimed in the last week, including six in Luhansk.

The New York Times reported that in a counterattack, defensively funded Russia launched a missile strike against a civilian city in southern Ukraine.

At least 22 civilians have been killed and 32 injured in Russian attacks in the past 24 hours, Ukrainian officials said.

Russia’s attacks are mainly concentrated in the south, claiming to use self-destructing drones.

Notably, he added that early this morning a chain of explosions allegedly a Russian missile attack occurred at a medical facility in Kharkiv in the northeast.

Russia’s recent attack on the Zaporiza nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe?

[기자]

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on sixth local time it had received a report that external power lines were damaged due to bombing damage to facilities outside the Japorija nuclear power plant.

He also explained that when the power line was interrupted, the emergency diesel generator was operated for 1 hour and 30 minutes to supply power to the reactor.

If power is not supplied to the cooling system in a nuclear power plant, overheating of the nuclear reactor can cause the core to melt where the bundles of fuel rods melt and serious accidents involving radioactive materials can occur.

Six of Zaporizha’s reactors are currently inactive, but power supplies are still required to perform their minimal safety functions.

There are fears that Russia, which is on the defensive, may use nuclear weapons. President Biden also spoke about it. But has the White House explained that there are still no signs of a change in its position of strength?

[기자]

The day before, President Biden mentioned the Russian threat of nuclear war even using the expression “Armageddon”, which means the last war of humanity.

White House Press Secretary Carine Jean-Pierre said there is no new information of further concern.

He also said the president’s remarks were addressing concerns over Putin’s threat to use nuclear weapons in recent weeks.

He added that he saw no indication that Russia was preparing to use nuclear weapons or any reason to adjust the US nuclear strategy.

The White House remarks can be seen as a reaffirmation that nothing has changed from the existing position as President Biden’s remarks evolve.

So far, it has been delivered by the International Department.
