[국제]Ambassadors between North Korea and China will likely be replaced at the same time…Why?

North Korea announced last week to change its ambassador to China, and China is expected to change its ambassador to North Korea soon.

The possibility of simultaneous replacement of ambassadors between North Korea and China is drawing more attention from the situation where the border between North Korea and China was blocked due to Corona 19.

The Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia, in which the two Koreas played as a single team in three events in 2018.

At the time, Vice Prime Minister Ryong-nam of the cabinet, who attended as the North Korean leader, was appointed as the ambassador to China last week.

61-year-old Ryongnam Li is a trade expert who has served as a Foreign Economy Minister.

During the 2018 Pyongyang Inter-Korean Summit, I met with the heads of major Korean companies.

It has been more than 10 years since North Korea replaced its ambassador to China.

Just in time, China is also expected to replace its ambassador to North Korea in about six years.

Foreign media reported that Wang Ya-jun, former deputy chief of the Communist Party’s External Liaison Department, is expected to become the North Korean ambassador.

Wang Yajun worked for five years in the External Liaison Department, which is in charge of diplomacy of the Communist Party, and occasionally met with Korean personnel.

She is relatively young at 51 years old, and her experience as a diplomat mainly in Europe.

Lee Jin-jun is 13 years old from the current Chinese ambassador to North Korea, and has a strong personality of generational change.

However, if the simultaneous change of ambassadors between North Korea and China is confirmed, it means more than a generational change.

In particular, North Korea, which has selected trade experts as ambassadors to China, is expected to strengthen economic cooperation with North Korea.

Even after the inauguration of the Biden administration, sanctions were less likely to be lifted, leading to a growing dependence on China.

The change of ambassadors in a situation where the border between North Korea and China was blocked by Corona 19 also shows North Korea’s concerns.
