[국제]5.3 billion won in public relations budget for’safety’ contaminated water in Fukushima in Japan

While the Japanese government is pushing ahead with a plan to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea, it was found that over 5 billion won was set as a budget to promote the contaminated water as safe.

The Tokyo Shimbun reported yesterday that in the third supplementary budget decided by the Japanese government this year, publicity expenses related to contaminated water at the Fukushima nuclear power plant were reflected in 500 million yen and about 5.3 billion won in our money.

The Japanese government is pursuing a plan to dispose of contaminated Fukushima water containing radioactive materials into the sea after purification, and this budget is interpreted to promote the fact that there are no problems in countries around the world ahead of the discharge of contaminated water to the ocean.

Environmental organizations such as Greenpeace are opposed to the Japanese government’s promotion of marine release, saying that the concentration of radioactive substances decreases after purification, but tritium is not filtered out.

There is also a strong backlash from fishermen, especially in the Fukushima area, and the Japanese government is struggling over the timing of the decision to release the sea.
