[건강라이프] Prevention of cervical cancer, vaccination and regular checkups are important

[골프타임즈] Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women and refers to a malignant tumor that develops in the cervix.

Although there are various causes of the disease, the main factor is sexual contact with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, and high-risk HPV infection is found in more than 99.7% of patients with prevalence.

Many women, whether sexually active or not, try to prevent viral infection with a cervical cancer vaccine, such as Gardasil 9ga. Gardasil 9 can prevent human papillomavirus infection and various female genital diseases.

There are more than 150 types of human papillomavirus, and they can be divided into high-risk and low-risk groups. Among them, types 16 and 18, which belong to the high-risk group, can cause cancer diseases such as cervical cancer, and types 6 and 11, which belong to the low-risk group, can cause condyloma called genital warts.

There are currently several types of cervical cancer vaccines. In the case of Gardasil 9, it is possible to prevent types 16, 18, 6, and 11, and types 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58 belonging to high-risk viruses, and includes genotypes frequently found in domestic women. Therefore, a relatively high preventive effect can be expected.

However, since HPV infection is mostly done through sexual intercourse, vaccination is recommended for both men and women, and it is desirable to continue efforts to prevent and detect female cancer through regular checkups as well as vaccination.
