After years of silence, The Simpsons Hit & Run fans have just woken up to the best news we’ve had in a while: the full original soundtrack is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other music services. In the absence of any announcement, many found it strange that this long-forgotten game should be getting any love (at least from the rights holders). But I’m here to tell you that it gets even stranger.
While many are only just discovering the news, the Hit & Run soundtrack has actually been on Spotify since last September – and it wasn’t announced then either. For whatever reason, the OST eluded most of us as Disney did absolutely nothing to boost the release. And that’s despite the fact that fans have been clamoring for a sequel or remake for two decades, giving the soundtrack a huge audience.
The availability of the OST on Spotify was spotted by most today, as Twitter user Out of Context told 20th Century Fox that they had spotted it. This led to many reporting that it was only added today, believing it had only been pushed to streaming services.
However, other posts on social media reveal that a handful of fans saw the film online months ago. The Simpsons Hit & Run speedrunner LiquidWifi shared the news back in September, suggesting it’s been around for some time. Some fans even hoped we would get news about a remake.
Regardless of when it was added, it’s likely to get more attention now. We can already see that fans also have favorite songs, with Simpsons Hotline, Homer’s Day and Legitimate Business being the most listened to at the time of writing. And with good reason – they’re all bangers.
