The Mars Rover Perseverance NASA is scheduled to land on Mars this Thursday. Here you have the chance to acquire parts of the planet Mars just a few days later. Online bids for the Christie’s auction “Deep Impact: Mars, Moon and other rare meteorites“are submitted.

A dozen objects from the Moon and Mars and another dozen from some of the world’s most famous museums are on offer. One of the offered historical meteorites are said to have killed a person and another has been shown to have hit a cow; some of the meteorites contain the oldest matter that humans can touch; and others included Gemstones from space.

OBJECT 21 – DISC OF A MARS ROCK

The auction is led by the fourth largest disk of the moon. It was cut from the Tisserlitine 001 meteorite and its surface area is more than twice the size of any other sample of lunar rock. Lunar meteorites, which are among the rarest substances on earth, hit the earth after being blasted off the moon after asteroid impacts. The lunar mineralogical and isotopic signatures of this specimen have been confirmed by scientists. (Estimated Value: $ 250,000 – 350,000)

Aesthetic meteorites from the Macovich Collection, the premier collection of aesthetic iron meteorites, are on offer, including a 300-pound specimen that can be described as a natural sculpture from space. It broke a sales record at auction in 1996, was part of a significant private collection for decades, and could soon break another record (estimate: $ 180,000 – 260,000).

Macovich curator Darryl Pitt started the aesthetic iron meteorite market. In an effort to inspire children, he created the limited edition in the late 1990s Mars Cube – “the first interplanetary collector’s item”. It includes Particles of Mars and an “Instruction Manual for Mars” and is valued at $ 600-1000.

“If there was ever a good time to switch channels and be amazed by the infinity of the night sky, this is now,” said Pitt. “But if you want to inspire and see your eyes widen – touch a meteorite.”

OBJECT 25 – THE MOST BEAUTIFUL KNOWN ALIEN SUBSTANCE

Of course, you can also try to find one yourself. After the Tirhert meteor shower in Morocco in 2014, a father and his son searched for otherworldly treasures. Under the scorching desert sun as hundreds relentlessly searched the desert floor, the boy instead looked for some shade, where he found the now offered meteorite wedged between the branches of a tree (Estimated Value: $ 15,000 – 25,000).

On July 24, 1790, a meteor shower occurred in southwest France. When someone looked at a shepherd’s health, he found a hole in his thatched roof and an unusual rock next to his lifeless body. It could very well have been the first and only documented human death from a meteor strike if it hadn’t been for a problem: the prevailing belief at the time was that rocks cannot fall from the sky. And if meteorites don’t exist … then how could someone be killed by one? But this example from that historical meteor shower does exist (estimated value: $ 2,000 – 3,000)

“We have put together our most diverse range of meteorites to date and the collectors are responding with great enthusiasm,” said James Hyslop, head of science and natural history at Christie’s. “One of my favorite pieces is a Swedish meteorite that came from the core of an asteroid and was shaped into a sphere; its natural crystalline structure makes it an alien crystal ball” (valued at $ 14,000-18,000). And what future can you see from it? An impressive auction from Christie’s Deep Impact.
