Offenbach / Frankfurt am Main (ots)

On Monday, June 21st, 2021 around 9 p.m., a resident reported water pollution in the port of Offenbach to the water police station in Frankfurt am Main. With the help of a helicopter from the police squadron, a substance containing mineral oil was found on the surface of the water over the entire width of the harbor (70m) and over a length of around 280 meters between the vehicle and pedestrian bridges. The contaminants had a slight odor. The inspection of the pleasure craft at the jetty and other small vehicles at the port entrance by fire fighters and officers from the Frankfurt am Main waterway police station did not reveal any evidence of a possible cause. Witnesses on site stated that there was already a contamination in the area of the port entrance at 4 p.m. The contamination was already severely frayed, so the Offenbach fire brigade did not take any measures to remove it. A causer for the discharge of the foreign matter into the port could not be determined up to the current status of the investigation.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against unknown persons.

In this context, the Frankfurt am Main waterway police station is looking for relevant information from witnesses. Please contact them on Tel .: 069-943459-0.
