On September 23, 2020, the police received knowledge that the Krottenbach, which flows through the Vogtsburg districts of Oberbergen and Oberrotweil, was contaminated by the massive entry of residues from wine production.
When examining the facts of the matter, the Department of Commercial and Environmental Offenses at the Freiburg Police Headquarters found that the water from the western outskirts of Oberbergen and Oberrotweil was grayish and that the water bed was covered over a large area by a gray wastewater fungus.
Since the inspection revealed residues from the winemaking process, in particular grape seeds and berry skins, there is a suspicion that several wine-making companies cleaned the tools and machines used in the context of the grape harvest and discharged the highly nutrient-rich dirty water into the Krottenbach via surface drainage to have.
The department for commercial and environmental offenses has started the investigation, a winemaking company from Oberrotweil is currently being investigated.
The river “Krottenbach” rises from a source above the Vogtsburg-Schelingen district and then crosses the Schelingen, Oberbergen and Oberrotweil districts. Shortly before the Niederrotweil suburb, the stream flows into the “Blauwasser” water body.
