City of Freiburg im Breisgau
Freiburg Brühl, appointment
A traffic accident was reported in the Siemensstraße area on February 12, 2021 at around 7:35 p.m. A tanker truck had strayed from an elevated driveway, tipped over and came to rest on the side of Siemensstrasse. The whole thing is in the area of the so-called “Rolling Road”, a system for loading trucks onto railway wagons.
The officers deployed found on site that a semitrailer with a tank trailer (4 tank chambers) had come off the road for a previously unknown cause. The truck broke through the guardrail and overturned to the side of the approx. 2 m elevated lane of the “Rolling Landstrasse” – loading onto the lane of the parallel Siemensstrasse.
The driver was injured in the accident and was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The vehicle was not insignificantly damaged. There was property damage of tens of thousands of euros.
Only one of the four tank compartments was filled. Part of the load began to seep onto the roadway and was picked up by the fire brigade that was also present. The substance is a moderately corrosive liquid. The fire brigade’s dangerous goods specialists were able to give the all-clear for residents and helpers. There were no acute health hazards. The manufacturer of the substance was informed and the local fire brigade took care of the prompt transfer of the substance and disposal of the leaked material as part of product liability.
According to current knowledge, the recovery will be difficult and only possible with a mobile crane and will take several hours. The recovery will probably only be started in daylight.
It will be reported.
