The traffic light coalition of the SPD, Greens and FDP is in place, the coalition agreement has been signed, the ministers have been named, so the team of the new government of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz is in place. Now the future Chancellor has to be elected in parliament, appointed by the Federal President together with his cabinet and finally sworn in in parliament. Then the first traffic light coalition at federal level can start work.
phoenix will broadcast live from Berlin on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. and report on all steps taken to officially establish the new government. Parliament meets in the Reichstag at 9:00 a.m. to elect Olaf Scholz (SPD) as Federal Chancellor. This is followed by the official appointment of the Chancellor and his cabinet by the Federal President in Bellevue Palace. Afterwards, from 1.30 p.m., phoenix will be live at the swearing-in of the entire cabinet by Bundestag President Bärbel Bas.
Capital correspondent Erhard Scherfer will host the live broadcast from the Bundestag. The expert at his side is political scientist Prof. Sabine Kropp from the Free University of Berlin. Jeanette Klag is a reporter at the office of the Federal President. Capital correspondent Gerd-Joachim von Fallois conducts interviews with some of the new ministers. The events in the plenary hall are commented on by phoenix reporter Katharina Kühn together with the head of the parliamentary editorial office of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Nico Fried.
The official handover of the official duties of Angela Merkel to her successor in the Chancellery is planned for 3 p.m. This handover is also accompanied by phoenix live.
