As part of a search by the Federal Police in September 2020 on the Federal Motorway 17 from Prague to Dresden, the Federal Police Inspection Berggießhübel was able to prevent two smuggling operations with a total of 17 unauthorized persons from Syria and Egypt at the rest area “Am Heidenholz”. The subsequent investigation by the Berggießhübel Federal Police Inspectorate revealed evidence that a smuggling organization was responsible for these two acts. Five other suspects were found, who are said to have smuggled 57 people in a total of eight people smuggled in the Passau and Freilassing area. On behalf of the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office, five of these are investigated against three suspects, and on behalf of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Traunstein in three other cases against two additional suspects. The allegation against the Syrian accused between the ages of 19 and 37 is smuggling in of foreigners, in part carried out in a gang and commercially. The Federal Police Department for Combating Crime in Munich is investigating the head of the smugglers on behalf of the Landshut public prosecutor’s office. According to the current state of the investigation, the 34-year-old Syrian national is accused of organizing at least six people smuggled with a total of at least 43 people. These came mainly from Syria and were smuggled in stages, partly by truck, to Germany. The public prosecutor’s offices in Dresden, Traunstein and Landshut had obtained search warrants for a total of six properties in North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony-Anhalt, Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein for these investigations.
