at 8:15 p.m. on SWR TV Baden-Württemberg / Moderation: Stefanie Germann

Stun guns with 500,000 volts, pepper spray, alarm pistols – anyone who wants to have such a signal weapon with them on the street needs the so-called “small gun license”. Almost 90,000 people in Baden-Württemberg own it, and the trend has been increasing in recent years. Many gun owners have vague fears of falling victim to a crime, although violent crime continues to decline. According to the German Police Union, this is a dangerous development because alarm pistols could also cause fatal injuries and would contribute to the escalation of conflicts. Why are citizens in Baden-Württemberg arming themselves even though they live in one of the safest regions in the world? “On the matter of Baden-Württemberg!” Poses these and other questions. in the broadcast on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at 8:15 p.m. on SWR TV Baden-Württemberg. Stefanie Germann moderates. After broadcast, the program will be available in the ARD media library for a year.

The fight for the scarce vaccine

Experts agree that the fight against the corona virus can only be won if as many people as possible get vaccinated. But even almost two months after the start of vaccination, many people over 80 are still waiting for their vaccination appointment, as are many nurses who also belong to the first priority group. Teachers, general practitioners and even football professionals also demand prioritization. So-called “vaccine crowd”, however, let their relationships play for an early date. And while the vaccine shortage is still being managed, the next problem arises: Do the vaccines help against the much more contagious virus mutations that are being detected more and more frequently in Baden-Württemberg? The guest in the studio is Thomas Mertens, virologist and chairman of the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO).

On site – at those willing to be vaccinated

First prioritized, then ignored? Reporter Sebastian Schley meets people from the much-cited “priority group 1”. Including residents of a nursing home in Heilbronn who have already received their second vaccination. When visiting a mobile care service in Buchen, he finds that the employees have been waiting for an appointment for weeks, although they have long been entitled to a corona vaccination.

Aerated concrete – when your home starts to crack

It is the nightmare of all home builders: to the best of their knowledge and belief, they build their houses with the widely used building block aerated concrete, but after 15 or 20 years cracks appear in the walls. This is what happened to a woman from Uhingen. According to a building expert, the side wall made of aerated concrete blocks may no longer be able to withstand the load of the house because the blocks have lost a lot of their compressive strength. About 40 homeowners in the Stuttgart region alone are experiencing a similar situation; some of their houses are in danger of collapsing. But because the manufacturers are only liable for their products for ten years, the homeowners are left with the damage. Are politics and justice leaving you in the lurch?

Portrait series for the state elections part 4 – Bernd Gögel (AfD)

After long arguments, Bernd Gögel is the top candidate of the AfD. The 66-year-old wants to lead the still young party back into the state parliament as the strongest opposition force. He is convinced that he can repeat the 15 percent from 2016. But how does he intend to do this with a party that seems internally divided and divided? Bernd Gögel presents himself as a moderate right-wing democrat. He wants to end the lockdown immediately, reform the school system and deport migrants without the right to stay as quickly as possible. But what influence can a party that nobody wants to work with have in the coming legislative period? Bernd Gögel explains it “On the matter of Baden-Württemberg!” at his favorite place in Tiefenbronn.
