Zeebrugge and Blankenberge want to collaborate to distribute tourists this summer

Blankenberge and Zeebrugge want to collaborate this summer to better distribute tourists on the beaches, said Wednesday the mayor of Bruges Dirk De fauw and his colleague from Blankenberge Daphné Dumery. There is indeed much more space for tourists on the beaches of the second seaside resort than on the smallest beach of the first. The two councilors therefore envisage a collaboration to orient tourists who would no longer have available space in Blankenberge towards Zeebrugge during the busy days.

Bruges is currently working on a beach plan to be able to safely welcome tourists to Zeebrugge this summer. There is room for 45,000 people, taking social distance into account, while on peak days a maximum of 9,000 bathers are planned.

If we see that the beach is really too busy, we will then divide it into zones. But, for the moment it is not necessary. Stewards will keep an eye on everything and make sure people follow the rules“says Dirk De fauw.

In Blankenberge, the neighboring seaside resort, there is a lack of space on the beach. There is room for 10,000 vacationers, while 30,000 people are counted on a peak day. “Zeebrugge can therefore be an alternative for those who can no longer find a place on Blankenberge beach“says Dirk De fauw.

The mayor of Blankenberge is enthusiastic about the idea. “Zeebrugge is close by so we can make a plan to direct people to their beach when there are too many people here“, abounds Daphné Dumery.
