Why the new LADA 4×4 Bronto will not “kill” Renault Duster

The all-terrain version of the popular Russian car after planned restyling awaits an unenviable fate in the market.

Last year, Togliatti engineers modernized the legendary LADA 4×4, but changes did not occur in all versions of the popular SUV. In particular, without changes, the “VAZ” left the “Niva” in the Bronto configuration.

But recently, information appeared on the network that AvtoVAZ developers are preparing an update for the all-terrain version of LADA 4×4, which is due to enter the market this summer. Interestingly, the Bronto assembly in the previous modification has already been discontinued and therefore engineers are going to start processing this Niva closer to the summer of 2020.

According to insider information, the restyled LADA 4×4 Bronto will acquire a salon that will be the same as the standard Niva. This suggests that the Russian SUV will endow with comfortable seats, revised on-board electronics and improved finishing materials. Also, Bronto will acquire a revised control unit for climate control.

The engine compartment of the LADA 4×4 Bronto will take the previous 1.7-liter engine with 83 horsepower, which is paired with a 5-position manual transmission, transfer case and a permanent all-wheel drive system. The price tag for the restyled “Bronto” is still unknown, but there is a possibility that the new product will increase in price.

At the same time, the developers believe that the updated LADA 4×4 Bronto will not only become a competitor to Renault Duster, but even “kill” the popular French crossover. However, in reality, this is a very controversial statement, since the “Duster” has more powerful and reliable engines, high-quality paintwork and can be compared with the “Niva” on the roads. Thus, AvtoVAZ is again engaged in nonsense – instead of a normal update that can make an SUV a bestseller, the company creates a car that is doomed to failure in advance.
