VW and Co. receive the next slap in the face

Tesla defies the corona crisis like no other automaker. Between April and July, Tesla delivered 90,000 electric cars – just five percent less than in the same quarter of the previous year. The slump at BMW: 25 percent. Converted, Tesla is now worth around 230 billion euros. VW, Daimler and BMW together generate around 147 billion euros. No wonder the electric car is becoming increasingly popular during petrol and gasoline Diesel move more and more into the background. The Germany plan also makes this clear: A new Tesla factory is being built in Grünheide in Brandenburg, for which Elon Musk is probably looking for 10,500 employees.

Tesla: e-car is just the beginning

In addition, the company boss recently announced a breakthrough in battery technology. The rechargeable batteries will in future be able to do without cobalt, be cheaper and last up to two million kilometers.

Tesla is not only far ahead of all other manufacturers in terms of electric cars. Also at autonomous driving the lead over VW, Toyota and Co. is enormous. And now comes the next bad news for the car companies. Because Tesla apparently made the next breakthrough: “I am very confident that Level 5 or full autonomy will be achieved and I think this will happen very quickly,” said Tesla boss Elon Musk in an interview at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai.

Surprising: The cars from Tesla, Audi and Mercedes are so bad

Experts are skeptical

Level 5 in autonomous driving means that the car takes over all driving functions, while the driver and front passenger become passengers. The current status is in level 2 – also due to legal requirements. The car can brake, steer and accelerate independently. However, the driver must keep his hand on the wheel and drive the car.

When exactly the completely autonomous car comes is uncertain. Experts are skeptical of what the Tesla boss says. They expect that it could take a few more years for autonomous cars to be taken for granted on the streets. But a visionary like Musk cannot be stopped from that.

E-car or diesel? These numbers show the terrifying miscalculation

With the electric car, however, the other manufacturers are slowly getting going. But only because they have to because of the CO2 requirements. By 2025 there should be a whopping 180 new e-car models to take on the Tesla Cybertruck.
