VUB rector Caroline Pauwels receives honorary doctorate from sister …

On Wednesday afternoon, the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) awards the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Caroline Pauwels, the rector of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). The honorary doctorate will be presented during the official closing ceremony of the previous academic year at ULB.

As rector of the VUB, Caroline Pauwels receives the honorary doctorate from sister university ULB, because of the continuous efforts she makes on numerous social themes. Supporting multilingual education in Brussels, defending freedom of expression through the establishment of Difference Day and the fight for freedom of research on the issue of the detention of the Iranian visiting professor Ahmadreza Djalali are some examples of her commitment.

The rector of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel is also honored for the various partnerships she has concluded in recent years with numerous European universities for the Eutopia project and the strengthened relationship with the ULB.

‘I am very honored to receive this honorary doctorate from my esteemed colleague rector Yvon Englert. It is a great recognition of the efforts we have made with the entire VUB in recent years to contribute to a better society as a university through education and research, ‘says Pauwels.

In September 2020 she will start her second and last term as rector of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. In her second term, Pauwels wants to continue to put the university forward as radically humanistic, radically sustainable, radically diverse, radically democratic and radically digital.
