Vojtěch: Veils in public transport could return in the autumn

Vojtěch told ČTK and Czech Radio on Monday during a visit to DIANA Biotechnologies, which developed a new device for testing samples on covid-19. According to the minister, more testing will also be needed in the autumn to exclude other diseases.

“It will certainly be something we are considering in order to prevent the spread of the infection at a time when a number of other respiratory viruses will be circulating here, and the situation will certainly be more complicated than it is today,” Vojtěch said about the possibility of wearing veils in the autumn.

According to him, the exact date will only be determined by the occurrence of coronavirus, but also by other respiratory infections. He does not expect the veils to be worn outside again. “But at least veils in places where a larger number of people are concentrated and it is not possible to observe any social distances, which is the case with crowded trams and buses,” he added.

At present, veils are mandatory only in the Prague metro and in public transport in regions where they are more infected, such as in the Moravian-Silesian Region or, more recently, in the Jihlava region. It must also be worn in inpatient facilities and homes for the elderly, as well as at indoor events for more than 100 people.

The obligation to use a veil or other covering of the nose and mouth outside the home was introduced by the Czech government due to the coronavirus pandemic from 19 March. The first mitigation of this measure was taken by the cabinet on May 25, when people outside could put the veils away if they kept a distance of at least two meters from the others.
