Vaccination Campaign in Nursing Homes Underway in Pontevedra and O Salnés Health Field

The health area of ​​Pontevedra and O Salnés has launched a vaccination campaign in nursing homes. In the city of Pontevedra, the campaign started last Thursday at the Saraiva Senior center, which has 39 users. Two Family and Community specialist nurses, Adriana Varela Buceta and Marina González Zar, from the Virxe Peregrina health center, came to protect 30 users with the second dose against pneumococcus, and three also with the vaccine against herpes zoster.

Adriana Varela clarifies that this type of community intervention “is a good way to recruit the most vulnerable groups, in this case established people, both for vaccination and for other care”, since “it will not we are not so focused on these patients, because they do not come to the health center,” said his colleague Marina González Zar.

The ESAD, also known as rural nurses, is responsible for taking vaccinations to social health centers in the councils of rural areas, and they are the ones who started the campaign a few weeks ago in the O Salnés region. Therefore, 44 users of the Servisenior residence in Vilagarcía da Arousa, and another 40 people from Nuestra Señora de Valvanera in the town of Cambados, have already been vaccinated with the vaccine against pneumococcal disease.

The goal of the Nursing Directorate of Pontevedra and O Salnés is to complete this vaccination in elderly people in residences before the summer. In the next few days they will go to the residence of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Caldas de Reis, where 68 vaccines against pneumococcus and 7 against herpes zoster will be given.
