The police detained brothers in the Zlín region, to whom the Austrians issued an arrest warrant

An international arrest warrant was issued by the Austrian authorities in early June, and the Czech police caught the man last week. Police spokeswoman Lenka Javorková informed about the case on Tuesday.

According to her, two brothers aged 40 and 47 are accused of trafficking. “For a fee, several refugees were allowed to enter Austria illegally or to transit through the European Union from Serbia to Austria, Hungary and Slovakia,” the spokeswoman said, adding that men could face up to ten years in prison in Austria.

The police did not specify the nationality of the accused, only stating that they were foreigners working in the Czech Republic. “One commutes daily from Slovakia for work and the other has a temporary stay with us. The younger one was detained by police during construction work in Zlín, the older one during a roadside check, “said Javorková.

The detained men have several entries in the Czech criminal record, and the court sent both to pre-trial detention. “In the coming days, it will be decided to extradite them to the police in Austria,” the spokeswoman added.
