The new six-cylinder from Maserati was inspired by the Formula 1 technique

Maserati has officially unveiled one of the most important parts of its upcoming and long-awaited MC20 supersport, the all-new engine. The novelty will have a twice-supercharged V6 engine under the hood.

The power unit was named Nettuno, completely developed and assembled directly in Maserati and will be produced only in Modena. The engine has a displacement of three liters, an output of 630 horsepower and a torque of 750 Nm.

The cylinders at the engine form an angle of 90 degrees and one of the main “pulls” is the antechamber of the combustion system with a double spark plug. A similar system is used by F1 cars and this system is used in a road vehicle for the first time. The engine has both direct and indirect fuel injection. It also uses lubrication with a dry sump with a suction pump and an external oil tank.

In terms of weight, the Nettuno engine’s hand stopped at 220 kilograms, an interesting value that could ensure that the MC20 will be a very agile vehicle. It is this supersport that will be presented on September 9 in Modena. According to some speculations, the engine should also appear in other Maserati models.
