Agnes Buzyn talks about her press conference on January 21
On that date, “I make the decision [d’organiser une conférence de presse] even before official confirmation that there is human-to-human transmission. I specify that it will be evolutionary. If I make this decision, it’s because I imagine (…) that we will have to tell step by step what we know and what we don’t know. I believe I am the only European health minister to have decided to hold a conference on that date ”.
She adds : “For me, the turning point is January 22, when we are told about human-to-human transmission, but I did my press conference before.”
She continues: “The level of alert goes up a notch on January 24. Friday evening we have the first three cases that are reported [en France]. That day, I called the commissioner [européenne] to health, Stella Kyriakides, to ask her to organize an emergency meeting of European health ministers. (…) She tells me (…) I have to ask the Croatian presidency.” What she does.

Agnes Buzyn concludes: “I ask that I be given the number of resuscitation beds, the number of respirators and that I be given all the capacity to take care of stocks, masks, equipment, etc. I immediately request that Public Health France give me three possible scenarios for the evolution of the epidemic and I request that he do so within twenty-four hours. I obviously ask among this list where the masks are.”
