In six concerts in Cesvaine, Riga, Nautrēni, Ugāle, Sesava and Kalnciems, listeners will be introduced to a wide repertoire of organ music – from samples of geniuses of the Baroque era to the discoveries of the organ timbre of contemporary Latvian composers.

On July 25, organist Aigars Reinis and cellist Ivars Bezprozvanovs will open the most beautiful pages of world and Latvian organ music at the Cesvaine Lutheran Church. On July 26, organist Ilona Birģele and violinist Paula Šūmane will play in the program “White Night” at the New St. Gertrude’s Church in Riga. On August 2, the organ duo “Riga Organum Duo” will perform at the Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary of Nautrēni. On August 7, organist Larisa Bulava will reveal the secrets of early music at the Ugāle Lutheran Church. On August 8, organist Diāna Jaunzeme-Portnaja and soprano Viktorija Pakalniece will meet at Sesava Lutheran Church. On August 9, the closing concert of the festival will take place in Kalnciems – Klīve Lutheran Church with the participation of organist Ilona Birģele, soprano Ilze Grēvele-Skaraine and violinist Paula Šūmane. The world premiere of Andrejs Selickis’ anthem for organ and violin “Križini” will be performed at the closing concert of the historical organ festival.

In each concert, listeners will receive an introductory lecture prepared by the organist on the historical organ and its culture in Latvia, but after the concerts, all those interested will be able to try and see the sound of the mighty instrument in the presence of organists and organ masters.

Ilona Birģele, the artistic director and producer of the project, says that a renewed organ will be opened during the festival this year as well – this time in the Kalnciems-Klīve church. This instrument was built by the Latvian organ master Andrejs Sūnāklis, and today it is the only almost completely authentically preserved opus of the master.

In the first years of the project, in cooperation with the travel agency “Impro ceļojumi”, trips from Riga will be organized, finding an opportunity to attend concerts in the regions.

In cooperation with the Riga Art and Media Technical School, a photo exhibition of students “Latvia – the Land of the Organ” will be organized in the churches.

Admission to all concerts for donations.
